Biennial Generator Reports<\/h3>\n

In Nevada, every facility with an EPA Identification number is required to submit a report on their hazardous waste management activities every two years. Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generators (CESQG) need only complete a one page report form to satisfy the requirements. Small and Large Quantity Generators are required to submit the complete federal EPA Biennial Generator Report (BGR). All report forms are due March 1, 2012.<\/p>\n

CityCenter Recycling<\/h3>\n

When most people think about recycling, they picture curbside recycling at home or the paper bin in the office copy room. However, recycling stretches far beyond these scenarios. One of the largest waste streams in the country is from the construction and demolition industry. A major construction project can generate thousands of tons of waste, most of which is recyclable. When MGM Resorts International began planning the $8.5 billion CityCenter in Las Vegas, the largest private construction project in the country, they knew they were going to have a lot of waste to haul out, and preferably not to a landfill. <\/p>\n

Nevada Adopting IECC Energy Efficiency Codes<\/h3>\n

The paradigm has shifted. Today’s economic reality has resulted in a unique opportunity to move the State of Nevada to the forefront for the adoption of the ANSI\/ASHRAE\/IESNA Standard 90.1-2007 for commercial and high-rise multi-family residential buildings, and the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) for low-rise residential buildings. The University of Nevada, Reno’s Business Environmental Program (BEP) will lead a statewide effort, in close collaboration with the Nevada Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Authority (NREEEA), to support the State’s goals of 2009 IECC adoption, implementation, and demonstration of 90% compliance by 2017. <\/p>\n

Energy Efficiency Success<\/h3>\n

Peter Millar is the Energy Management Specialist at the Business Environmental Program (commonly known as BEP), a program of the UNR Business Services Group that “provides free and confidential environmental management assistance to business and government operations in Nevada.” He recently met with Chuck McCumber at the NSBDC to discuss a recent client with whom he worked on an energy efficiency retrofit.<\/p>\n
