{"id":2336,"date":"2010-07-15T09:33:42","date_gmt":"2010-07-15T16:33:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unrbep.org\/?p=2336"},"modified":"2010-07-15T09:33:42","modified_gmt":"2010-07-15T16:33:42","slug":"gov-contractors-must-track-emissions-or-risk-losing-contracts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unrbep.org\/dealerportal\/gov-contractors-must-track-emissions-or-risk-losing-contracts\/","title":{"rendered":"Gov Contractors Must Track Emissions or Risk Losing Contracts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Contractors for the federal government that do not track their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions could risk losing their contracts, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.federaltimes.com\/article\/20100712\/ACQUISITION01\/7120301\/1001\"target=\"_blank\"><strong>according to a report in the<\/strong><\/a> Federal Times about new rules by the General Services Administration (GSA).<\/p>\n<p>The new rules are a part of the GSA\u2019s response to an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.environmentalleader.com\/2010\/07\/15\/2010\/01\/29\/obama-orders-government-to-slash-ghg-emissions-28\/\"target=\"_blank\"><strong>executive order by the Obama administration issued in October<\/strong><\/a> which directed federal agencies to find ways to reduce their GHG emissions. Potentially, the new rules could have far-reaching consequences through the entire economy, not just government contractors.<\/p>\n<p>Once the new rules go into effect, preference will be given to suppliers that are tracking and reducing their GHG emissions. Third-party accreditation and reductions in supply chain emissions would also be taken into effect when the GSA decides on awarding contracts.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, few companies, including government contractors, track their emissions.
