{"id":2551,"date":"2010-08-06T13:18:24","date_gmt":"2010-08-06T20:18:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unrbep.org\/?p=2551"},"modified":"2010-08-06T13:18:24","modified_gmt":"2010-08-06T20:18:24","slug":"businesses-lag-in-tracking-most-sustainability-metrics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unrbep.org\/dealerportal\/businesses-lag-in-tracking-most-sustainability-metrics\/","title":{"rendered":"Businesses Lag in Tracking Most Sustainability Metrics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While a majority of facility and sustainability professionals are tracking electricity use, many still don\u2019t track for <strong>waste<\/strong>, water, green purchasing, carbon footprint and other sustainability metrics, according to a survey from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ireuse.com\/about_ireuse.aspx\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>iReuse<\/strong><\/a>. \u00a0They also lag behind in using data\u00a0tracking tools.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ireuse.com\/upload\/iReuse_FSDM_SurveyReport.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Facility and Sustainability Data Management Survey<\/strong><\/a>\u201c (PDF) indicates that while most \u2018green\u2019 professionals track their operational and environmental performance, it\u2019s primarily for electricity data using an Excel spreadsheet. \u00a0Survey respondents say that using the spreadsheet is \u201ccumbersome\u201d and leads to data entry errors and the need for custom formulas.\u00a0 Eighty-six percent of respondents currently use Excel to track their utility data, but only 33 percent are satisfied or very satisfied with this tool.<\/p>\n<p>Many survey respondents are tracking electricity \u2014 74 percent track some utility data and 72 percent track electricity \u2014 and about half track water, waste, or natural gas, says iReuse. \u00a0The survey also finds that 46 percent don\u2019t track any other data such as green purchasing metrics, business travel, or carbon footprint.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, 44 percent of respondents indicate that utility data is tracked by facilities, 24 percent by the sustainability department, and 16 percent by the accounting department.<\/p>\n<p>Read more at <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.environmentalleader.com\/2010\/08\/06\/businesses-lag-in-tracking-most-sustainability-metrics\/\" target=\"_blank\">Environmental Leader<\/a>:<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While a majority of facility and sustainability professionals are tracking electricity use, many still don\u2019t track for waste, water, green purchasing, carbon footprint and other sustainability metrics, according to a survey from iReuse. \u00a0They also lag behind in using data\u00a0tracking tools.
