{"id":2697,"date":"2010-09-13T08:15:34","date_gmt":"2010-09-13T15:15:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unrbep.org\/?p=2697"},"modified":"2010-09-13T08:15:34","modified_gmt":"2010-09-13T15:15:34","slug":"green-seal-unveils-pilot-certification-for-sustainable-companies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unrbep.org\/dealerportal\/green-seal-unveils-pilot-certification-for-sustainable-companies\/","title":{"rendered":"Green Seal Unveils Pilot Certification for Sustainable Companies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/green-seal.org\/\" target=\"new\">Green Seal<\/a>, a nonprofit organization with 20 years&#8217; experience in developing eco-labels, has expanded its scope with its a new pilot standard that seeks to certify the sustainability of an entire company.<\/p>\n<p>The group&#8217;s new GS-C1 certification is aimed at consumer product manufacturing firms, and aims to speed the greening of the consumer market &#8212; which makes up about 70 percent of the U.S. economy, Green Seal said in an announcement of the standard.<\/p>\n<p>As the public comment period winds down for GS-C1 &#8212; comments from the public will be accepted through September 30th at <a href=\"http:\/\/green-seal.org\/standards\/\" target=\"new\">GreenSeal.org\/Standards<\/a> &#8212; Green Seal is hosting a free <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenseal.org\/certification\/gs-c1_webinar.cfm\" target=\"new\">webcast walking through the certification<\/a> on Wednesday, Sept. 15.<\/p>\n<p>The webcast, which runs from 1pm to 4pm, Eastern Time, will guide companies through the certification&#8217;s requirements for environmental and social sustainability. Among the criteria included in the standard are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Transparency and accountability on environmental and social policies at the corporate level;<\/li>\n<li>Aggressive goals, commitments and achievements on environmental and social issues, including greenhouse gas reductions, water and waste, indigenous peoples&#8217; rights and biological diversity;<\/li>\n<li>Supply-chain management and accountability practices;<\/li>\n<li>Life-cycle analysis of product lines and commitments to reduce environmental and health impacts from manufacturing, packaging, transport and end of life; and<\/li>\n<li>Third-party certification requirements to verify environmental and social responsibility of products.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more details on the GS-C1 standard, visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenseal.org\/certification\/gs-c1_company_standard_development.cfm\" target=\"new\">Green Seal&#8217;s website<\/a>; registration for the webcast on September 15 is available at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenseal.org\/certification\/gs-c1_webinar.cfm\" target=\"new\">greenseal.org\/certification\/gs-c1_webinar.cfm<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Green Seal, a nonprofit organization with 20 years&#8217; experience in developing eco-labels, has expanded its scope with its a new pilot standard that seeks to certify the sustainability of an entire company.
