{"id":5452,"date":"2012-11-13T09:47:08","date_gmt":"2012-11-13T16:47:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unrbep.org\/?p=5452"},"modified":"2012-11-13T09:47:08","modified_gmt":"2012-11-13T16:47:08","slug":"waterfree-urinals-to-save-bard-over-500000-gallons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unrbep.org\/dealerportal\/waterfree-urinals-to-save-bard-over-500000-gallons\/","title":{"rendered":"Waterfree Urinals to Save Bard Over 500,000 Gallons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Source: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.environmentalleader.com\/2012\/11\/08\/waterfree-urinals-to-save-bard-over-500000-gallons\/\" target=\"_blank\">Environmental Leader.com<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Bard College has replaced its flushing urinals with Falcon Waterfree Technologies urinals, which will save more than 500,000 gallons of water a year, according to the waterfree urinals maker.<\/p>\n<p>These water savings, the school says, will increase Bard\u2019s Sustainability Tracking, Assessment &amp; Rating System (STARS) score, which measures how environmentally friendly a college or university campus is.\u00a0Bard has also made upgrades to its water treatment plant, according to the college\u2019s sustainability manager, Laurie Husted.<\/p>\n<p>The maintenance staff says the waterfree urinals are easier to clean than flush urinals, and cartridge changes are not needed as frequently as first thought. The urinals are odorless, they say.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to offering <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bard.edu\/bos\/academics\/\" target=\"_blank\">academic programs in sustainability<\/a>, Bard College is also implementing sustainable practices on campus including <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bard.edu\/bos\/2012\/10\/21\/bottled-water-vs-tap-water\/\" target=\"_blank\">reducing deliveries of bottled water<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bard.edu\/bos\/recycling\/\" target=\"_blank\">recycling waste<\/a>, operating a free campus shuttle and participating in a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zipcar.com\/bard\/\" target=\"_blank\">Zipcar car sharing service<\/a>.\u00a0Bard says since 2005, it has <a href=\"https:\/\/stars.aashe.org\/institutions\/bard-college-ny\/report\/2011-06-14\/2\/15\/48\/\" target=\"_blank\">reduced waste by 30 percent<\/a>, compared to a 2005 baseline.<\/p>\n<p>Other\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.falconwaterfree.com.\/commercial_urinal_clients\" target=\"_blank\">Falcon urinal clients<\/a>\u00a0include Adobe Systems headquarters, Bank of America\u2019s One Bryant Park in New York, Coke and the US Green Building Council headquarters.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.environmentalleader.com\/2012\/08\/14\/facebook-oregon-data-center-reveals-water-use\/\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook\u2019s Prineville, Ore.<\/a>, data center achieved a water usage effectiveness rating of 0.22 liters per kWh for the 12 months to the second quarter of 2012 through several water-saving efforts including waterless urinals, the social networking giant announced in August.<\/p>\n<p>In 2011, utility company <a href=\"http:\/\/www.environmentalleader.com\/2012\/09\/26\/sempra-energy-sustainabililty-report-normalized-co2-levels-drop-11\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sempra Energy<\/a> reduced its water withdrawal by just under 17 percent compared to 2011, in part by installing low- and no-flow urinals, according to the company\u2019s sustainability report.<\/p>\n<p>Kohler introduced 40 new water-efficient toilet models to the North American market in 2011, earning it a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.environmentalleader.com\/2012\/10\/08\/lowes-kohler-kb-home-win-epa-water-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\">2012 EPA Water Sense award<\/a>. According to EPA, the company\u2019s stock of lavatory faucets and urinal fixtures is made up of nearly 100 percent WaterSense-labeled models.<\/p>\n<p>Also in 2011, Kohler partnered with Habitat for Humanity to install <a href=\"http:\/\/www.environmentalleader.com\/2010\/11\/19\/greenbuild-roundup-day-3-showcases-energy-water-efficient-products\/\" target=\"_blank\">WaterSense labeled toilets, faucets, and showerheads<\/a> in 550 Habitat homes in California and Texas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: Environmental Leader.com Bard College has replaced its flushing urinals with Falcon Waterfree Technologies urinals, which will save more than 500,000 gallons of water a year, according to the waterfree urinals maker.
