{"id":7487,"date":"2015-04-13T08:01:40","date_gmt":"2015-04-13T15:01:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.unrbep.org\/?p=7487"},"modified":"2015-04-13T15:48:07","modified_gmt":"2015-04-13T22:48:07","slug":"confidentcompliance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unrbep.org\/dealerportal\/confidentcompliance\/","title":{"rendered":"Confident Compliance"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Confident Compliance<\/h4>\n<p>March 30, 2015<\/p>\n<p><em>By Roland Fornoff<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-7488 size-medium alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unrbep.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Compliance-Check-300x152.jpg\" alt=\"Compliance Check\" width=\"300\" height=\"152\" srcset=\"https:\/\/unrbep.org\/dealerportal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Compliance-Check-300x152.jpg 300w, https:\/\/unrbep.org\/dealerportal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Compliance-Check.jpg 315w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>For over ten years, I have worked in environmental management.\u00a0 During that time, one thing that has remained constant is the disillusion of business owners and managers that they are in compliance with regards to hazardous waste.\u00a0 They have identified their waste as hazardous and have hired a company to haul the waste away and dispose of it.\u00a0 In their minds, they have done the \u201cright thing\u201d.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>While making sure the waste is disposed of properly via a licensed waste hauler is essential, there is so much more to hazardous waste compliance than simply shipping the waste away.\u00a0 As a hazardous waste generator, you need ensure that you meet the numerous requirements, including (but not limited to):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unrbep.org\/devsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Generator_Status_112011.pdf\">Determining your generator status<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unrbep.org\/devsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/EPA-8700-12.pdf\">Aquiring an EPA identification number<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Proper on-site storage in satellite and central accumulation areas<\/li>\n<li>Container labelling including EPA waste codes and a start date<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unrbep.org\/devsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/2015_HW_Calendar.pdf\">Weekly Container Inspections<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Accumulation time limits (90 days or 180 days)<\/li>\n<li>Employee training<\/li>\n<li>Maintaining up-to-date and accurate documentation (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.unrbep.org\/devsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Hazardous_Waste_Manifest_FactSheet.pdf\">manifest<\/a>, land disposal restrictions, inspection records, training records, contingency plan, pollution prevention plan, etc.)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unrbep.org\/devsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/EPA-2015-Hazardous-Waste-Report-8700-13.pdf\">Biennial reporting<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Unfortunately, this is not the responsibility of the company hired to haul the waste;
